2001 Napa Valley Syrah:
((( back

Wine Spectator - 91 Points

"Zeros in on a core of wild plum, wild berry and earthy leathery flavors that give it a northern Rhône kind of flair and density. Intense, concentrated, well-extracted and firmly tannic, it packs in lots of flavor, richness and depth. Best from 2005 through 2012." (JL)

PREMIERE RELEASE - ARTISTICO SERIES

The 2001 growing season in the Napa Valley has proven to be not only outstanding, but potentially the best of the decade. Mother Nature kindly provided excellent spring and fall conditions that, with patience, yielded optimum concentration of pigment, tannin, flavor, and Syrah varietal expression. To ensure our highest standard of quality, we sourced our first Syrah from vineyards managed with our same strict viticultural philosophy. This blend was hand crafted from small one ton lots harvested exclusively from a small block in Yountville and from the Caldwell Vineyard in Coombsville.
The Buoncristiani brothers created the series "Artistico" to fuse winemaking passion with other forms of art expression. Our Syrah label will feature original artwork to complement our blend each vintage. The different vineyard and barrel components were blended in several phases creating optimum complexity while retaining balance, varietal character, and superior quality. This wine was aged in barrels for 16 months and bottled in February of 2003.
We, the Buoncristiani brothers, take pride in performing all aspects of enology, viticulture, wine production, and art design in order to share with you a true expression of our winemaking passion.
