A true rarity in California and particularly Napa Valley, we are pleased to offer this premiere release of our Buoncristiani Family Winery Grappa. Grappa is a uniquely Italian liquor. Distilled from the pomace of our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, this immensely fragrant 82 proof clear liquid feels like smooth silk on the pallet despite its 41% alcohol by volume. In Italy, grappa is primarily served as a digestivo or after-dinner drink. Its main purpose is to aid in the digestion of heavy meals. Grappa may also be added to espresso coffee to create a caffè corretto, meaning "corrected" coffee.
The inspiration for our grappa came from a trip to the Piedmont region of Italy many years ago. Our winemaker Jay Buoncristiani was fortunate enough to be hosted at the famed Romano Levi Grappa Distillery in the small town of Nieve in the Piedmont region. Romano Levi was considered a legend in the craft of distilling grappa and is widely thought of as the mythical almost canonised grappa master. Distilling each batch by hand for the likes of the world famous Gaja winery and others, Levi’s grappa was highly sought after not only for the contents inside each bottle but for each hand drawn label with which he adorned them.
Jay Buoncristiani took the lessons he learned from this trip to craft this premiere release of our Buoncristiani Grappa. Like Levi, our equally artistic winemaker was inspired to create a charcoal drawing entitled “Bella Cypress” that has been carefully screen printed onto each bottle of our Buoncristiani Grappa.
This artisan grappa was small-batch distilled from the fresh pomace of our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon grapes using the finest craft methods of Alambic distillation.
